WOW 013 – Just Don’t Stop

Written by:

There Is a lot of wisdom out there from Confucius. Today I’m looking at this one and will use it as a reminder to keep on going. It doesn’t matter if you’re going very slow, taking your time is better than doing nothing.

I’ll use my blogging as an example. Maybe I’m having a really bad day, I’m in pain and just can’t imagine doing any blog work. However, if I stop and think about it there’s probably some little thing I can do.

I can reply to a comment or two or I can come up with a topic to write on or a quote for a W.O.W. These things only take a minute and don’t require much brain power.

The point is to move forward even if it’s a fraction of a step. Just don’t stop! Usually, if we’re honest with ourselves we can do some small step even on our worst days.

If you’re learning something new you can view one tutorial or read one paragraph on the topic. Find something that works for you and somehow, keep moving forward. Tiny baby steps are absolutely fine!

If you’re working on some creative endeavor do one small thing. Write down an idea, write one sentence or one line of poetry, sew one seam, hammer one nail, etc.

You get the idea. Success is just moving forward. Will it take longer to reach your target goal? Probably, but you will most likely have days when you feel energetic, creative and driven. On those days do as much as you can, as much as you want to, you’ll make up for the slow days.

What do you do on days you don’t feel like working on your goal or project? I do take a day or two off each week. On weekends I only respond to comments. I have other personal projects I work on like my crochet, sewing or drawing. I’d love to hear how you deal with bad days, sick days or days you just don’t feel like doing anything. Drop me a note in the comments.

This is my philosphy too! It’s a matter of giving yourself grace, and being at peace with accomplishing just a tiny thing when you’re not “feeling it”. It is true for me as well, that there are days in which I can get in the zone and accomplish quite a bit when it comes to my blog or other creative pursuits. It all balances out, I think.

Thank you for your wonderful comment. I’m glad to see you have the same philosophy i do. It’s about being kind to yourself but not giving up. It can be so hard to get going again if you stop. Hope you’re having a great day!

Somebody said “cinch by the inch, hard by the yard” and that seems a good motto. Rome wasn’t built in a day and the tail of the hare and the tortoise are all popular and remind us to take time and we will get there eventually.

YES! Those are all great things to remember and live by. I never heard of “cinch by the inch, hard by the yard” I like it! Thanks so much for commenting.

Wow I really like that math! I don’t normally allow links in our comments but I’m making an exception for this one. I’ve clicked it and can verify it’s safe for anyone who is curious. Thank you so much for sharing this!

I know it can be difficult when your body isn’t fully functional. I have mobility issues and chronic pain. However, there is always some little thing I can do every day rather than stopping completely. I hope you can find a way to keep on going.

I received an apology message because it was an error on Jetpack’s part, but this time it was for a different reason… I’m always nervous. When I see other people’s sites being shut down, I feel the same way and feel sad. Haha 🥹😂anyway, thank you, have a nice day too😀😃😄🥰

That’s right Priti. It’s about not giving up on your goal or dream. Keep picking away at it even when you feel you have nothing to give. Do some small thing so you can assure yourself that you worked on it today. Thank you for commenting.

I think it is actually a good time to give your ideas a rest when you don’t feel at your best, dear Roze. That is when I will lie down on the couch with a warm blanket and just sink into a piece of music. Half asleep, half awake, between the worlds. And then, when I get better again, I feel the well of inspiration bubbling.
But of course, it is a balance. It is always about balance. If you let go a little bit longer, you lose the grip, the focus, but if you concentrate on it all the time, you won’t be able to see it at a distance either. To see it fresh, anew. To have your ideas mature. Both are important.
Dear Roze, you really made me think because – yes – I need to be more stubborn and more focused. Thank you so much for that!
Good health and much inspiration! 💖🤗

Yes you are so right Elena. It is all about balance. I’m so glad you were able to think about this and how it applies to you. I do agree, sometimes we might need a short break. I tend to take Sundays off from this blog but I can’t stop for any longer or it is hard to start again. It can apply to anything too. A diet, exercise, habits whatever.
Thank you so much Elena, i really appreciate your comment. You have given me something to think about too. I wish you a Windermere day!

Some creative projects seem herculean when you begin doing them. Breaking the project into small mmanageable steps does accomplish a lot.

Isn’t that the truth! Just imagining starting a huge project without breaking it down feels overwhelming. I like to think anything is possible one small step at a time (well, maybe not ‘anything’ but most) 🤔

Sometimes the chores are never ending. But we can make ‘me time’ by just doing something small for the day and take that time for you. You’re very welcome!
