I don’t know what the weather has been like where you are but here we’ve been getting so much rain. With that in mind I thought I’d put together a list of things to do on rainy days and share it with you. I’ve broken it into three sections – home, online, and out-and-about. If you have children many of these can be done as a family activity as well.
AT HOME
- Do a photoshoot with your pet. This could keep you occupied and laughing for hours.

- Turn on your favourite tunes and DANCE! If you have kids or a partner turn it into a dance party.
- Learn a new skill or hobby. Try origami, tye-dye, painting, drawing, or carving. You could paint inspirational rocks and the next nice day you could go for a walk and leave them in places for people to find.
- Get into the kitchen and do some cooking or baking. Make your favourite rainy day comfort food, try a new recipe or just do an old favourite like chocolate chip cookies, rice krispie squares or a boxed cake mix.
- Have a board game afternoon. Play one game as a competition or try playing a round of every game you have. Whatever you choose its sure to be fun.

- Work on a jigsaw puzzle. This can be a great relaxing activity if you’re dealing with stress. A nice cup of coffee or tea, some soft music and you should be destressing in no time.
- Take the time to pamper yourself. Have a nice long bubble bath, do a face mask, pedicure or whatever you like. Maybe paint your nails or try a new makeup style you’ve been wanting to try. This is also a great way to unwind and destress.
- Make popcorn and binge watch your favourite TV series or movie trilogy.
- Start a journal, bullet-journal, or diary. Feeling extra creative? Start writing a book, short story, or maybe try writing some poetry.

ONLINE
- Plan your next vacation. Not planning on going anywhere? Do a virtual vacation online. Look up a place you’d like to visit, learn about the area and people, find a virtual tour of some attraction in that area. You could even use Google Earth to find the location and get a good look at it.
- There are tons of virtual tours of museums and art galleries online too. These were wildly popular during lockdown and can still be enjoyed today.
- Check out earthcam.com and see live video feeds from around the world. There are lots of animals and tropical destinations as well as small towns, tourist hotspots and much, much more. I could easily waste a few hours here.

- Find YouTube tutorials to learn a new skill. It could be anything from woodworking to Zentangle or even knitting. Whatever you have the desire to learn and the materials to do. Or you could just watch and learn now then get yourself set up for it another day.
- Watch stand-up comedy on YouTube. There are so many performers to choose from and many are very good. This is a great way to cheer up if you’re feeling a bit down.
- Look up blogs about things you’re interested in. I can pretty much guarantee there are a few out there on any topic you can come up with.
- Start your own blog. Just think of something you’re interested in and go for it. You don’t have to be a professional writer or be able to do any kind of coding. With WordPress.com it is super simple and anyone can do it.
OUT-AND-ABOUT
Most places have some form of indoor entertainment venues. Even a small town may have a museum, gallery or movie theatre. Check out your area and see what is available. You may be pleasantly surprised.
- Go to a hands-on science centre, aquarium or nature centre.

- Go to a movie or play
- Go bowling, roller-skating, ice skating, swimming
- Go to the library
- Go to an art gallery or museum
- Go to an indoor trampoline park, rock climbing wall or playground
Whatever you choose to do try to make it fun, relaxing, or educational and your day will not be wasted. If you need to lounge around in your pj’s all day eating junk food we’ll call it self-care and try to do better tomorrow. We all have those days.
