Emotional Wellness is all about how you feel. Not just how you are feeling right now this moment, but more so your deep overall inner feelings. Life is only simple if you are genuinely feeling confident, secure and happy with yourself. So in this section of the Simple Lifestyle series, we will focus on some basic things you can do for your emotional wellness, to help make you feel better and stronger about who you are. When you are emotionally strong, you are better able to handle and bounce back from situations and circumstances that get you down in life. So let’s take a look at some techniques that can help improve confidence, a sense of security, and make life a little more enjoyable.

Five Practices that Foster Strong Confident Individuals

Don’t just sit around, get your lazy pants off the couch and go for a walk or something. Being active every day in your life decreases stress and at the same time improves your emotional wellness. So go out and have fun, walk, bike, fly a kite, make a snowman, build a sand castle, or go for a swim. Just find a way to be active doing something you enjoy.

Affirmations are short sentences you say out loud to help boost something positive you want to improve. It is a great way to combat the negativity that likes to creep into your thoughts. It helps to create a more positive outlook on your life, and yourself. Some people write them down and stick them in the corner of a mirror or pin them to a wall so they can see them throughout their day.

You will feel emotionally stronger by learning to say NO to people. Saying yes to everyone all the time can be exhausting. By saying no to some things, it lets people know they can not take advantage of you. There’s nothing wrong with being nice and doing stuff for people, however, they have to know that you’re not available at the drop of a hat whenever it suits them. It’s OK also to sometimes put your own needs first and saying NO will give you the control to be able to do just that.

Dwelling on things that have happened in the past is very stressful on your emotional well-being. Especially if there is nothing you can do about it. When that happens it’s best to process your feelings and let them go. Then, what you want to do is find something that will help distract you from overthinking. Work on a hobby you enjoy. If you don’t have a hobby, then try colouring or doodling. The main thing is to look after your emotional well-being because holding onto the past could cause serious depression and/or anxiety.

Every day all day, computers, mobile phones and tablets flood us with information nonstop. As great as the internet may be, it also gives us information overload. Tweets, videos, messages, all kinds of news, and the horrible events that take place in our world. It can be an overwhelming amount of information that can be hard on your emotional wellness. Take the time to pause from it, and shut off notifications for a while. Take a cyber-break so you can focus on the things you need to. It will help keep you from being distracted and reduce anxiety and stress.

Being self-confident and truly happy with yourself is vital for a strong sense of emotional wellness. Use these different methods and techniques to help you to maintain a healthy, positive, self-image. Life tends to throw emotional turmoil at you when you least expect it. So looking after yourself helps you to bounce back a little easier when things do happen.
