Written by:

Do you deal with negativity in your life? Or maybe have a hard time keeping a positive mood. If so you may want to consider using positive affirmations to start your day, I’ll even let you know why.

Every day you have to deal with negativity. Sometimes within yourself and other times from other people you encounter throughout the day. All this negativity adds up over time causing problems from simply not being able to enjoy your day or up to mental stress and anxiety.

People from all around the world have been using affirmations since the 1920s which are, simply put, short empowering statements of positivity. They are great little statements used to help combat negativity that tries to crush our goals and dreams for a better future. I don’t know about you, but I most certainly do not like being controlled by the negative thoughts of others.

If you feel the same way sometimes, you might want to seriously consider using positive affirmations to start your day. There are a variety of reasons why people choose to use these optimistic messages. However one of the main purposes is so you can work on training your mind to think more clearly by creating a realistic want or desire that is achievable.

I have confidence

People often wonder if saying and repeating positive affirmations to start your day really works or not. Well, they do for many people. Also, for many reasons. Here are a few for you to consider.

Power Over Negative Thoughts

Some people more than others deal with a lot of personal negative thoughts on a daily basis. When a person chooses a particle phrase to focus on, it makes it easier for them to regain control over their thinking. Being consciously aware of your thoughts gives you a lot of power for dealing with negativity.

More Consciously Aware

Another group of people is those who have to deal with negativity day to day from others. So the practice of using positive affirmations to start your day allows you to leave in a strong optimistic frame of mind. When you are being more consciously alert you are in better control. Which makes it easier to be able to deflect negativity that comes your way.

I can accomplish this

Self-Perspective

Affirmations allow you to be better able to appreciate the simple good thing in your life. By making sure you have chosen to use some grateful statements from time to time you will be more aware of the little, but important, things you already have. Things like your health, a place to live, food to eat, etc.

Enhances Thought Prioritizing

Knowing what you want to think, and how you want to think combined with practicing positive thinking leads you naturally into learning to prioritize what you think about. Starting with the most basic of thinking, positive over negative. Then it continues to grow and develop from there.

Provides Inspiration

Stating a positive affirmation to start your day inspires you to improve. After all, you have to pick something to focus on, and when you do that you are likely setting some sort of goal for yourself. Repeating it and writing it down gives you a little mental boost to go for it.

I am worthy

Better Health

Using optimific messages for yourself puts you in a happier mood making you feel better. Happy people tend to try and live better lives causing them to become better. People who work on becoming better usually end up living healthier. This means you end up with the natural potential to live a longer healthier life.

Builds Up Self-esteem

As you continue using positive affirmations to start your day you become more and more optimistic. Optimistic people very often have this tendency to help others. This gets noticed, and people are now drawn to them. They start making more friends, which builds up self-esteem and self-worth at the same time.

Increases Problem Solving Skills

Not only does it help with protecting against stress and anxiety it also makes you a better problem solver which increases your ability to perform various tasks better. Being a better problem solver causes you to start seeing potential problems faster and coming up with ways to get through them before they become fully developed.

I have skills and abilities

Greater Anxiety Defense

Positive affirmations in the morning to start your day gives you a mental chance to be better able to find ways to reduce stress before it even gets a chance to begin. This gives you a little more mental time and confidence to come up with positive ideas which also helps reduce anxiety and stress.

Improved Concentration

Reading or saying these statements every morning requires both dedication and concentration. This helps your brain to focus on remembering your goals and objectives. Over time, due to all the repetition, your mind starts getting stronger and quicker at remembering certain things you want to focus on. In short, higher concentrations skills.

Now in case you are seriously considering using positive affirmations to start your day tomorrow. I will first list a few simple basic ones you can use right away. Also, I’m going to provide you with a quick outline of how to make your own. I think making your own is best, so feel free to use, change, or ignore the ones I provide.

I feel peaceful and calm

List of some possible statements you could use

  • I have the skills and abilities to improve
  • Every day, including today, is a fresh start
  • My day and time are important to me so I am my best today.
  • I feel relaxed when I sit outside so I will sit outside at the park today.
  • I know I’m smart so therefore I know I can accomplish things.
  • I have confidence and to prove it I will say hi first.
  • I am worthy. I know because I’m loved and respected.
  • Today is my day, I am positive because I choose to be.
  • I matter
  • Today is a great day.
  • I am grateful for ….
  • I am creating my own future.
  • I know I can do this…

Instructions for creating your own

  1. Pick or write it for you personally so it’s meaningful.
  2. Use present tense statements like I am, I will, Today, I have, and so on.
  3. When possible keep it short so you can remember it easily to use throughout the day.
  4. Use positive words, focus, then say them with strong emotion.
I am grateful for my health

Bonus tip: Personally, I like to add a simple action challenge that helps support the truth of the statement. For example, let’s say you’re a person with low self-esteem or confidence. Well, first pick something true and positive like kindness. Then add action to support the statement and in return, it helps you to work on your self-esteem or confidence. i.e. I am kind and I will compliment 3 people today. Kind is true, and a compliment might be easy. However, to a degree, it requires confidence to randomly say something you like about a person.

Affirmations are powerful but only if you use them the right way. The best way is to make sure it has personal meaning to you. Also, write them down somewhere like an index card. Post some, not too many, in places you can see them. Places like the fridge door, the corner of a mirror, your car visor, or pinned to a wall. Read them and say them with emotion, like you really mean it.

Also, use one from time to time for being thankful for the good things you have. Lastly, write or collect around a hundred of them. This way you can switch them up so as not to get bored with them. Think of them like clothing. New ones are great but more importantly try to keep the ones you have good and fresh by changing to a different set so as not to wear them out before you outgrow them.

Today is a fresh start

Using and reciting the statements each morning will give you some armor for combatting the negativity we have to tend with each day as well as improve your ability to stay in a good mood. Best of luck and don’t forget to click, follow, and if you want, leave a comment letting me know what kind of statement you created for yourself. I’d appreciate that.
