You are about to enter into a journey of self-discovery. You will, without effort, pull forth your inner passion.
When you were a child, you somehow knew what your passion was. Every day was a great adventure. You pull together things, and your imagination would transform everyday objects into the very things needed for you to live your passion of being whatever it was you wanted to be. For some, it was a superhero, fireman, or astronaut.
However, as the years went by we slowly forgot the things that made us truly happy. The things around us remain objects for us to use to accomplish someone else’s dreams. Imagination dwindled to the point of being piles of rules, regulations, things you should do, ought to do, get done, and what’s next.
Now living day to day when the only risk you take is cutting work early or calling in sick so you can go fishing, golfing, or just have a ‘me day’. Ambition to wash away the bleak day-to-day with some strong beverage to help make you feel you are experiencing some sense of joy. Leaving us to ponder at the end of it all “Is this it?”, felt with about as much passion as that of making the bed in the morning.

Well, I’m here to tell you, no this isn’t it. There is more, you just need to wake up from your drudgery and find yourself, then explore. You do not have to settle, you can rise up and reawaken the inner child.
Now is the time to dust off your brain and start using it again.
Make a list, and write down every crazy thought. Write down things you get excited about. Don’t judge just write. It doesn’t matter what it is, write it down. Write down the things that make you laugh. Write down the things that put a smile on your face. Just write and let thoughts come alive and flow. Write down things you wish you could do. Places you’d love to go. People you would love to meet. Once you have that all down you can start waking up your brain.
Alright, you dusted off your brain, you woke it up. Now sweep away that sticky icky negativity and think of more. Write down all the thoughts and ideas that perhaps your brain was saying you can’t do. You thought you would love to go to ….. but your brain said not to write it down because you can’t afford it, there’s not enough time, it’s too far, you don’t have the skills. Ignore and write it down anyway. If you want to skydive, write it down. If you want to go to the moon, write it down. If you want to be a millionaire, write it down. Stop judging and write it.
Alright, you have a nice long list, awesome.
You bypassed your negativity. Now it’s time for positivity and to kick the negative to the curb at the same time. Go back to the top of your list. Next to every item on that list you are going to write why. Name one positive reason why the item you wrote is good. For example, perhaps you did write ‘go to the moon’.

Well if I wrote that one good reason is that I’d have a blast jumping, spinning, and doing cartwheels, and it would look so cool if someone recorded me doing it. It would look like parkour in slow motion. If I wrote ‘sticking my feet in a cool bucket of water puts a smile on my face.’ my reason why is because it makes me feel so relaxed and refreshed soaking my feet in the water because it is so hot outside.
You see, this little process communicates to your lazy, logical, pessimistic brain that it is perfectly fine to think of crazy and wild ideas, so bugger off and at least let me enjoy this moment of writing things down. There is no harm in writing a list, as a matter of fact, it helps to make my day better. For the most part, your brain should get the message and be ready for you to be creative.
Now you are ready. With this next task, your inner child is going to be reawakened. You are going to enter the imagination zone. You may very well find a new passion through the process. Perhaps rediscover some old ones. You are going to make a collage. If you have never done this, that is fine. It is very easy.
The tools you will need are something to cut with like scissors. Attaching material such as glue or tape. A place to stick things on like cardboard, or any flat surface. The final item you will need is pictures or written material, like old papers, magazines, newspapers, or flyers.
The first thing you do is go through the magazines, newspapers, flyers, and such. When you go through them, cut out anything that catches your imagination and gather them into a pile. Take your time. Maybe a word catches your eye or a picture. Cut them all out; The more the better. If something draws your attention, cut it out and save it. Don’t overthink it just collect the material.

Once you have built up a nice pile of stuff you cut out grab the glue or tape and start attaching it to your board. Don’t judge, just create. Attach each piece where you feel it should go. Once you have all the pieces glued on, sit back and study it. See if anything stands out. You could be surprised at what you find. It may bring back an old memory. It will most likely show you what you are truly passionate about.
Did you renew or increase your passion for life?
As simple as this little project may be it is also very powerful. As I stated in the beginning you enter into self-discovery. What do you see when you look at your work of art? How does it make you feel? Is there a bunch of words clustered together? Similar pictures in a group? Write down any ideas it has given you. Is it perhaps trying to show you your inner passion? Something that may truly make you happy. Perhaps it’s showing you something you’re missing or need to work on.
I hope you use this exercise to help you to stop merely living day to day but instead choose a direction to work towards. Take control of your day, pursue your passion, and let the inner child out more and more often. Pursue your dreams, and desires and start taking back your life. Take the risk and truly live life to the fullest.
