April Calendar Month is most known for…

Written by:

April calendar is the fourth month with 30 days. April is known for a couple of main things. The first is April Fool’s Day. This is a day celebrated by playing jokes and harmless pranks on friends, family, schoolmates, and co-workers. You get it. Generally, a little joke is played, and at the end of it, a person announces April Fool’s Day.

Another thing that is celebrated on the April Calendar is Easter. Easter itself is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. However, to many children, they see Easter as the day of the Easter Bunny. To children, it’s a day when they go around and search for Easter eggs. Parents will hide candy eggs around the house and sometimes even outside. The children think it was the Easter bunny who hid them. The family would have fun finding candy eggs in their shoes, toys, coat pockets, and who knows where else.

FYI: Officially Easter is celebrated the first Sunday after the full moon that happens on or after the spring Equinox. If the full moon is on a Sunday then Easter will take place on the very next Sunday on the Calendar.

So in simple English what does this mean? It means Easter could be celebrated in March instead of April due to the timing of the full moon. During this century Easter appears in March in 2008, 2024, 2035, 2046, 2062, 2073, & 2084.

The April calendar month gets its name from the Latin word aperio. The word aperio refers to when the bud of a plant blooms or opens up. So the month of April is seen as the springtime of renewal since it is the time of year that many plants begin growing.

When it comes to monthly gemstones, which can also be referred to as Birthstones, there are two common lists. Modern and Traditional. For a majority of Birthstones, they are the same, however, some months do have a different stone, and a few actually have more than two different birthstones associated with them.

The reason why I refer to the list with the word common is because of the vastness of our world and its history. For example, ancient Romans and Greeks had various birthstone lists due to region, astrology, or religious beliefs. there are more than one type of list. For example, one list is the one used in a breastplate mentioned in the bible in the book of Exodus. Another list would be an astrological or zodiac list associated more with a range of dates and star alignment.

The list of birthstones that many are more familiar with today is what some may call a jeweler’s list. The traditional, also known as ancient birthstones list, came about in Poland around the 17th century. The modern list that many jewellers use was established in the United Kingdom in 1912. The key difference between the traditional and modern ones is that the modern ones are more transparent and similarly shaped in comparison to each other. Making it easier to set more than one in a ring as well as other types of jewelry.

Here is a list of both traditional and modern gems associated with the months of the year used by many jewellers today. Now, if you are more familiar with a different birthstone list in your culture, society, or heritage. Feel free to let us know in the comments.

THE APRIL CALENDAR GEMSTONE

April’s birthstone for both modern & traditional is the diamond

THE DIAMOND GEM

The diamond is considered a status symbol due to its clarity and astounding beauty. Diamonds are so popular around the world that they even have their own figure of speech or slogan. The phrase is “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”

IT’S BEAUTY

In general, most diamonds are colorless, as in clear, however, you find them in various colors like yellow, blue, and red. The clear colorless ones are more plentiful and popular.

SYMBOLIC MEANING

The diamond represents strength and eternal love. Strength is due to how extremely hard diamonds are. It can cut glass. Also, industrial tools use diamond dust on metal tools to help cut through other stones. Because they also represent eternal love, it is commonly used in wedding rings and engagement rings.

WP is acting weird and won’t let me like your reply. It was probably the name origin of the month actually. I never gave it much thought before, but the reasoning is good. 🙂

That’s a great way to look at birthdays Stella. I don’t let the numbers bother me. I feel blessed to have made it to another one. I love April too. It’s wonderful to see the tulips pushing thriving the ground as well as crocuses and what we call Johnny-jump-ups. They look like tiny pansies. Don’t you just love all the new growth?

Yes, I love watching all the new growth come through! I can see the sprouts coming out already on the trees around here. I can’t wait to redo my flower beds later in April! I love gardening…

    Hi Razz.

Never knew where the name comes from and I love the connection to buds and green shoots. Also in France , although slightly different spelling, apèro, means aperitif , the time of evening when we sit down with a drink and nibbles and I love that too!!

I’m finding it interesting to learn about the origins of the month names too. I’ve learned alot about the calendar through Razz’s research. Flowers is certainly one of my favourite things about April and spring in general. I don’t like the rain we’re getting so much.

I agree Easter is hard one to understand until you know the reason behind it. I’ll still probably forget though lol. The origin of the month names is my favourite part of these posts too. Hope you are having a beautiful spring day Joanne.
