It’s summer here in the northern hemisphere and over the last 3-4 weeks we’ve been noticing all the blossoming trees around us. It’s easy to be mindful of these as they are everywhere and the weather is nice enough to sit outside and just take it all in. Being mindful doesn’t have to take long. It’s about noticing things and appreciating them for whatever reason.
We have a number of apple trees on our property and as you can see they are looking very good this year. They have tons of blossoms and are so pretty and sweet smelling.
Stopping to be mindful of these for a moment or two brings to mind all the wonderful things we can do with the apples when they come. Everything from apple sauce to apple cake, apple crisp, juice, even wine if we want.
They are good to eat as-is, for a quick healthy snack. Plus they are provided totally free by mother nature! What’s not to love?

The next blossoms I noticed were on the chokecherry trees. There are other names for them I understand. According to Google they are pin cherries or bitter berries.
Regardless of the name they are pretty, delicate white bunches of tiny flowers. When they mature they will be clusters of dark red berries hanging from the tree like grapes.
I’ve found that the birds and other wildlife get to them before I can so I’m glad to let them have them. The berries are quite sour and have quite a large pit for such a tiny berry. I’d rather sit and watch the birds feed from the tree and marvel at how food is provided for all creatures.

I absolutely love my lilac tree. It is in the middle of the back yard so I can sit on the deck and have a beautiful view and they smell sooooooo good! Unfortunately I’m allergic to them so I can’t take a big bunch in the house like so many do.
The best thing about having a lilac tree in the back yard is the hummingbirds. The tree only blooms for a week or two so the time is fleeting just like the hummingbirds. They love the sweet nectar of the lilacs and flit around the tree taking in its goodness.
The tree is also popular with the goldfinches and chickadees. The chickadees are so playful; chasing each other in and out of the shelter of the tree. I love sitting and watching all the birds.

So that wraps up our mindfulness post for another month. If you noticed a difference in the writing style it’s because Razz didn’t write this one. It’s Roze writing this time as Razz has been very busy with other things.
If you know any of these blossoms or trees by another name or if you have another use for them, whether a recipe or anything else please drop us a comment and let us know. We love hearing from our readers!
