Want to know the easiest way you can practice mindfulness? Well here is the greatest simplest one I know of. Look up. That’s all you have to do when you’re outside. Take a moment to stare into the heavens. If you are indoors just look out the window.
So if you haven’t practiced being mindful before, and are not sure where to start this is it; Look to the sky. It takes .03 seconds to learn. Then take notice of something. Perhaps a puffy cloud that looks like something. Maybe you see the moon. A rainbow, that’s awesome. Even if all you notice is that it looks like it’s going to rain or it’s a perfectly clear sky. Boom! Because you looked, observed and became aware of something you are now a sky-watching guru. Congrats on your new, awesome, mindfulness-practicing, expert skills.
Here are some examples of me practicing sky-watching. The photos are taken with a cell phone so they may not be fantastic or anything. However, the point of the Come & C is me giving examples of how I practice being mindful so you can try them out for yourself. The main point is to find something, anything, to pause and take notice of during your day. It’s a practice for helping you and myself to pause, relax and find little ways to better enjoy and appreciate your day.
The images I am using in this post were taken on April 8th, 2024. It turned out to be a cloudless day; nothing but clear skies. May not have been best for cloud watching, however, it did give me the opportunity to observe and be aware of things I had never seen before.

It was morning and decided to pause, look up, and be mindful of the sky. Even though there was nothing to see, it was still amazing. The sky was such a bright blue. So I decided to take a picture of it.

Around lunchtime, I stepped outside, looked up, and saw a ring around the sun. I thought it was cool so I grabbed a picture of it. Roze told me it’s called a sun halo and that they are rare. Turns out it was a good thing that it was such a clear sky day.

This image I took between 2-3 pm. Earlier when observing the sun halo Roze informed me today there would be an eclipse. I couldn’t really see anything. Just looked like the bright sun as usual. So I tried to take a picture to see if it might show up on camera. Even though the camera didn’t really catch it either, it still made a cool picture with the light streaming.

Later on, when the eclipse was nearly over I remembered my grandfather’s welding helmet. I went to the garage and found it all dusty and everything. Looked up to the sun and wow, I was amazed. Even though it was close to being over I still got to see it. Nothing like what I’ve seen in movies and TV. Going from left to right. Instead, it was going upwards. The sun was a neon green and the moon a black dot. I tried to take a picture of it through the welding mask. Didn’t turn out great but it did kinda catch it.
So if you want an easy start for being more mindful, the sky is the limit. When you’re busy or feeling stressed out, stop and look up. Pause and look to the sky, take a deep breath, and relax. It only takes a few seconds, however, it could be just the thing to help slow things down so everything doesn’t feel so hectic.
Tell me what type of sky makes you feel the most at ease. Starry, clear, rainy, sunrise, sunset…? Me, it’s a toss-up between a sunset or a blue sky with puffy clouds slowly drifting by.
Thanks for stopping by and until next time, keep on going and keep on growing.
