May Calendar Month is most known for…

Written by:

Welcome to RazzWorks.com where we will be covering information about the May calendar in this post. I am Razz and I just want to give you a heads-up, my intentions for this post along with posts on the other 11 months will be an ongoing project. This means I intend to update each post with additional information over time. So please feel free to leave any suggestions or ideas you have in the comment section when you are done reading. Enjoy.

WHAT IS THE MONTH KNOWN FOR?

During the May calendar month, you will get a chance to let your mom know how special she is as Mother’s Day is celebrated. Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world and most commonly on the second Sunday of the month. There are a few countries where it might not be celebrated on the exact same day. For example, Serbia celebrates it in March. Or like France, it’s celebrated in May however on a different day.

Did you know that Mother’s Day started in the United States? In 1907 in West Virginia, there was a memorial service for a lady who worked really hard for the betterment of children. The following year Anna Jarvis organized the first Mother’s Day acknowledging and honoring all moms. Later President Woodrow Wilson of the United States made Mother’s Day a national holiday during the May calendar being the 2nd Sunday of the month. Over the years word slowly spread and today it is celebrated in many countries around the world. Here is a list to name a few. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, China, Japan, the Philippines, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Venezuela, South Korea,……and many more.

HOW THE MONTH GOT IT’S NAME

The May calendar name comes from the Roman goddess Maia. She was the goddess that oversaw the growing of plants. The Roman people believed she was an earth goddess and considered her the nurturer of all the plant life.

INTERNATIONAL GEM FOR THE MONTH

During the year most calendar months have a particular gemstone or birthstone that has been consistent over the years within two common categories. One category is referred to as traditional and another one as modern. However, over many years other lists of stones have developed for various reasons. For example, if you were to go with the bible and read about breastplate gems that represent each month there are actually two different breastplates. Another example of a list that varies is a jewelers list. Not all jewelers use the same list so some stones can vary for a particular month. With this series of articles, I am attempting to present information that is common around the world. As I mentioned earlier I intend to update information over time. The gemstones and birthstone list is one of those areas that I will be updating in the future. For now, I will be presenting the international gemstone stone list this year.

The May calendar’s international Birth Gemstone for the month is the green emerald. The emerald gem can come in different colors however the green emerald is for the month of May.

PUZZLE CHALLENGE

Ahh you’re done already, well thanks for stopping by at RazzWorks, hope to see you again. Before you go here is a little word-seek puzzle for you. Can you find all the words from the article?

The detail about May’s gemstone, the green emerald, is a nice touch. Consider adding a brief description of the stone’s characteristics, such as its symbolism or what makes it unique among gemstones. This could engage readers who are interested in gemstones or birthstones.

So glad you found it interesting Joanne. I love being able to teach people stuff 😊. It’s a shame your family doesn’t place importance on mothers day. I feel it should be a big deal. Mothers are important!

Hi Carrie and happy birthday to your son! My daughter’s birthday is in May as well, just yesterday actually. I’m so glad to know you learned something about the month of May. It is hope, to me, as the winter is finally behind us and some days are almost like summer. The in-between stage between spring weather and summer weather. Hope to see you here again!
