C.O.M.E. & C. Signs of Spring

Written by:

This post is about taking a moment to be mindful of spring, being aware and observing the subtle changes in the air and nature around you. What’s your favourite sign of spring? Here are the first 3 things I noticed.

With the rise in temperature, you can go outside without bundling up in a cocoon of clothing. Some days a light coat or sweater will be all that is needed. As the temperatures keep creeping up, it won’t be too long before a coat won’t be needed at all.

This is a picture of a thermometer. Taking a moment to appreciate that the temperature is on the plus side of 0. Looking forward to the days of the double digits (+10C and higher).

Due to the warmer temperatures the snow slowly evaporates and the ground becomes visible. Sure it may still snow from time to time however it tends to disappear almost as quickly as it falls. At least you don’t need to shovel your way out the door anymore because the big storms are no more; for the current year at least.

When I looked at the backyard and saw that almost all the snow was gone. I just had to take a picture. Even though I know that there is still a chance of more snow to come. At least now I know it won’t stay. So I had to appreciate the beauty of it because it meant days of shovelings the driveway were over and that winter was defeated.

One of the greatest clues that spring is well on its way leaving the wintry cold and snow behind is nature budding. Grass begins showing up in the yard. Buds begin to appear on the tips of tree branching. The best sign of all is flowers beginning to poke their heads up out of the ground.

Roze mentioned that there were flowers growing already by the front door. So I thought I’d go check them out. I saw some purple poking out of the ground and thought that was what she was referring to. I thought that was cool considering the snow isn’t even completely gone yet. So I took a picture. Turns out she was referring to some green leaves by the step that I thought were weeds or something. Ha Ha, tells you how much I know about gardening. None the less still a beautiful sign of spring. By the way, Roze tells me the purple flowers are called Johnny jump-ups and the green leaves I dismissed are tulips.

The signs of spring are all around; what a wonderful thing to pause and take notice of. Make sure you take a minute or two to stop and be mindful of the small changes that are taking place around you.

Here is a word search puzzle for you to enjoy while you think about the things you like about spring. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. We would love to hear from you. Until next time, may you have a wonderful day.

The best about spring is the warmer temperatures and letting go of the jacket. Everything turning green is also amazing.

I have to agree with you, the warm days are my favourite part too. I love being able to sit outside and enjoy the sun before it gets too hot. Hope you are having a great day!

Fantastic post! I love Spring! 🌞
Watching Mother Nature wake up all around me after a long cold winter makes me feel joyful and grateful to be here to experience it.
Being able to go out without all the extra weight of boots and coats is wonderful and makes me feel lighter, more equipped to explore and see all the changes around me.
Though I love snow, you get tired of the cold so I get quite excited to see all the snow gone from the yard…It reminds me that I can go exploring once again soon!

Very nice, Stella! I love how you’ve expressed your gratitude for the changes of spring. If we look around in sure we could find many more changes to be thankful for in spring.

Yes, Joanne, I agree; spring and fall are alot alike. They are both like a great relief from the extremes of summer and winter. I love them both for that reason. What is autumn like where you are?

Thanks for your comment Priti. It was a beautiful spring day yesterday and today is cold again. Typical spring weather for us.

Where I live, we’re heading into Autumn (Fall).

The cooler weather is very much welcomed, because our Summer has been not only hot, but 100% humidity for the most part… so rather sticky and uncomfortable too!

I live on the coastline, and it has never snowed here… inland, yes. But I have yet to see snow in real life, ha ha!

Sadly, we don’t experience a whole lot of ‘leaves changing colour’ in a remarkable way (I was in the UK once, during Autumn, and the trees there left me wide-mouthed and open jawed! The reds and browns and yellows – the contrasts – were absolutely exquisite! I’m a tree person though 😉 )
Strangely enough, I have a small purple flower in my front garden beds that looks similar to a type of miniature wild violet… and it flowers now, in this season, and through Winter.

Love this post! Thank you for the reminder to be mindful 😉

I love the colours of fall also. The multi-coloured leaves are like the flowers of fall. I wonder what that little flower is that you mentioned? The ones we have here bloom early in the spring and into the summer but are gone when fall arrives. As for snow it may look pretty but the temperature required to keep it here is not fun. I’ve always hated the cold.

I’ve asked a few people what that little flower of mine is, and no one seems to know. So odd!
I experienced some of the extreme cold when I was in the UK – it was my kind of weather! I’m afraid I am not one for the sunshine! Ha ha!
