Being Mindful & Observing Spring
This post is about taking a moment to be mindful of spring, being aware and observing the subtle changes in the air and nature around you. What’s your favourite sign of spring? Here are the first 3 things I noticed.
Temperature Rising
With the rise in temperature, you can go outside without bundling up in a cocoon of clothing. Some days a light coat or sweater will be all that is needed. As the temperatures keep creeping up, it won’t be too long before a coat won’t be needed at all.

This is a picture of a thermometer. Taking a moment to appreciate that the temperature is on the plus side of 0. Looking forward to the days of the double digits (+10C and higher).
Snow Slowly Going Away
Due to the warmer temperatures the snow slowly evaporates and the ground becomes visible. Sure it may still snow from time to time however it tends to disappear almost as quickly as it falls. At least you don’t need to shovel your way out the door anymore because the big storms are no more; for the current year at least.

When I looked at the backyard and saw that almost all the snow was gone. I just had to take a picture. Even though I know that there is still a chance of more snow to come. At least now I know it won’t stay. So I had to appreciate the beauty of it because it meant days of shovelings the driveway were over and that winter was defeated.
Flowers Start Appearing
One of the greatest clues that spring is well on its way leaving the wintry cold and snow behind is nature budding. Grass begins showing up in the yard. Buds begin to appear on the tips of tree branching. The best sign of all is flowers beginning to poke their heads up out of the ground.

Roze mentioned that there were flowers growing already by the front door. So I thought I’d go check them out. I saw some purple poking out of the ground and thought that was what she was referring to. I thought that was cool considering the snow isn’t even completely gone yet. So I took a picture. Turns out she was referring to some green leaves by the step that I thought were weeds or something. Ha Ha, tells you how much I know about gardening. None the less still a beautiful sign of spring. By the way, Roze tells me the purple flowers are called Johnny jump-ups and the green leaves I dismissed are tulips.
Take Notice of the Little Things
The signs of spring are all around; what a wonderful thing to pause and take notice of. Make sure you take a minute or two to stop and be mindful of the small changes that are taking place around you.
