I know this quote is very short and simple and has become sort of cliché but I still like it and it has made me think this week. So life is a journey, but where are we headed and will we know when we get there?
You see, I read something this week that had me questioning a lot of things in life. And not even for myself but thinking of my children and other family and friends. I may ramble a bit just have a bit of patience with me as I try to put my thoughts into words.
What I read was about how we work 8 hours a day to sleep 5, we work 6 days a week to rest one, we work all year to take 1 or 2 weeks holiday, and we work all our life to retire old and tired. So what is the point?
Then I saw this quote and my brain heaved a big sigh of relief. It’s not about where we’re going or where we will end up. That’s looking too far ahead. It’s about the journey.
Are you doing what you want to with your life? Are you the person you want to be? Don’t look too far ahead but think about what you can do now to bring you closer. Maybe take a few baby steps forward and see how it feels.

When you go on a journey somewhere, whether it’s a walk in a local park or a tour of another country, you’re not wishing for it to end. Quite likely you are looking around, seeing and doing new things, and enjoying every moment; wishing it would never end.
It’s actually a great analogy for life. I know I don’t want it to end. Not out of a fear of death and what happens next but because I have a family I love, I have grandchildren I want to see grow up and I have a wonderful husband. All these things, plus plans for further steps on my journey, make me want this life to go on and on. There are so many things I want to do and experience.
My journey has slowed down as I’ve aged and become less agile but I’m still going. There are new skills I’d like to learn, places I’d love to see and friends I haven’t met yet. My journey is about experiences now.

Even if you don’t have big plans it’s still a journey. We still need to set goals and work on little steps to reach that goal. Make plans just like you would if you were planning your next vacation. Maybe your goal is as simple as developing a morning routine that works for you (not as simple as it sounds) or as big as starting your own business. It doesn’t matter what it is we need to break it down and start moving forward with it, take those baby steps.
Every goal is a destination on our journey and every time we reach one we need to acknowledge our accomplishment and celebrate it. Don’t ever stop setting goals, making plans or moving forward on your journey. For many people, there was only the big plan of working their whole life to retire and enjoy life and then something happens and they don’t get to.
Enjoy your life now! Make it part of your plan. We aren’t guaranteed a certain amount of time so you need to do what you can every day. Have fun, enjoy time with family and friends, and enjoy life’s journey with those you love.
I’d love to hear how you are making the most of your journey. Leave it in the comments
