Just a heads up you won’t actually see me freeze. C.O.M.E. & C. stands for.
C= collection
O= of
M= mindfulness
E= examples
&= and
C= commentary ( “c” pronounced out sounds like “see” also commentary is a fancy word for words )
The post is more about how I feel about the freezing cold of winter. In other words, me grumping and growling because it’s freezing cold outside. Before we jump in I will admit there are times when it can be very pretty like snow or ice on the trees and lots of fun things can be done outside in the cold. If I get a chance and happen to catch a photo or two, then maybe I’ll write a post on it. For now, this post will be about winter, snow and freezing cold. It’s so cold my deep freeze has a blanket on it to keep itself from getting frostbite. (End of joke laugh here)
As I’m sure you know already, mindfulness includes things like being aware and observing. Nothing states it has to be a positive observation. So, I believe, in my defense, that my awareness and observation about winter counts. I have observed a lot of snow coming down and piling up everywhere. Also, I am very aware of how cold it gets outside in the winter months. There you have it observe and aware = mindfulness. Brrrr, I mean cool, we got the technicalities settled. (End of dumb joke, groan here)
There are many, many people out there who really like winter and snow. To you guys, that is awesome. However, I am not one of those people. Why? The simplest way to put it is because it chills me to the bone. Also, I feel it is costly. You have to spend more money, time, and/or energy in order to stay warm.
For me, I find in the colder months my electricity bill goes up. In the cold months of winter, you need to heat your home. For most people, it means either, electricity, propane, natural gas, or furnace oil.

Now also I am aware of 3 other options. The first one I know used to be used many years ago. Also maybe it is still used in some parts of the world more so than here. If you use this method let me know in the comments because I am curious. That is coal.
The second option I really don’t know much about. I only know of it because I saw it in a movie once. Peat moss. It looked like the person was digging it out of the ground, by using a shovel and cutting it into rectangles and then throwing it in a big pile. In the movie also saw the person through some into a stove to burn to heat his house. Before you ask, no I do not remember the name of the movie.
The third option I am more aware of. That is wood. I have a wood stove in the garage and burn old cut-up trees that have come down due to storms or burn chopped-up discarded pallets that the stores throw out.
Burning stuff in a stove requires a lot of time. You have to tend to it, feed it, poke it, stir it up, and add more to it in order to keep it going. You can not just light it and walk away cause it will go out. So it requires you to spend some time.
Also, you need to spend a fair bit of energy to have fuel for your stove to burn. I know from dealing with wood that it requires energy to find it, cut it, and collect it, as well as chopping, moving it, sorting it, stacking, storing, and piling it. Don’t forget you still have to, on a regular basis, pick it up one last time to feed it to the stove for burning. Just thinking about it is making me sweat.
So there you go, fighting the winter freeze either means you need to spend more money, time, or energy to stay toasty warm inside your home. But what if I want to go outside? Well ok, let’s be mindful about that and think about what it requires. Hmm well first off, it is best not to just simply open the door and head out. Not unless I want to freeze. Well, that’s not happening. So that means I need to gear up. Going to need a good heavy coat, hat, hood, and maybe an extra shirt or a sweater. Oh, can’t forget some insulated boots and a pair of gloves for my hands.
Ok out the door we go venturing into the great white cold. Oh my, all the snow, it’s everywhere. Here check it out.

So yeah, snow, snow, and more snow. I have observed and am most certainly aware of it. Very mindful of it when shovelling. I can’t say that I’m grateful or appreciate all the snow, cold, and winter chores. Not sure what to call it other than I tolerate it. With all of that being said, there is one thing I know for certain. That is I very much appreciate the other seasons of the year.
I appreciate spring because the air gets warmer, The ground starts appearing as all the snow melts away and the rain brings new growth; grass, leaves, and best of all the pretty flowers.
I appreciate summer more cause it means I go to the beach and sink my toes in the sand. Smell the sea air while watching the waves flow in and out along the shoreline. Even better is going into the water and letting waves wash over me. Float on my back and stare at the sky.
Last but far from being least. I appreciate the fall/autumn season the most. For me, it’s my Goldilocks season of the year. That is because it’s not too hot which summer sometimes can feel like at times. Also, it’s not too cold either. I get to observe the beauty of the trees changing to golden yellows, bright orange, and so on. Listening and watching the birds of the sky on their journey to the south for the winter. (take me with you)
Now I’m not saying there aren’t lots of great things about winter. I just find it freezing cold and prefer to keep warm. Also I just simply don’t get very excited about shoveling snow all the time.
IS WINTER YOUR LEAST OR MOST FAVOURITE SEASON?
