No Money? No Problem!

Written by:

I think it’s fair to say most of us go through periods of time when we don’t have much money. Maybe you’ve been planning to start a budget and be more careful with your money but right now you just don’t have any funds and you’re getting bored. Don’t think of it as being broke, think of it as an experiment in being frugal. You never know it could turn into a lifestyle for you.

There’s only so much TV to watch and scrolling social media just makes you wish you could go out and do something fun ‘like everyone else’.

I have loads of suggestions for you. There is so much you can do without money. I’ve broken the suggestions into a few categories so take your pick, get up and do something

Clean it up

Now this may not be what you’d like to be doing but it’s a great opportunity to do some of those tasks you generally avoid. Plus cleaning can be very therapeutic. If you’re broke you are probably feeling a bit stressed out about it. Take your mind off of money with some of these tasks.

Rearrange your furniture
Hang or rearrange art on the walls
Declutter a room
Organize your junk drawer
Clean out a closet
Wash your windows until they laugh
Do laundry – think curtains, tablecloths, mats etc..

Electronics

We love our electronic devices! When was the last time you sorted the photos on your laptop or phone and deleted all the blurry, no-good ones, or created folders and organized your documents? Maybe your contacts/address book is horribly out-of-date. Most of us, I’m sure, could find something on our device that could use some attention besides social media

Unsubscribe from emails you’re no longer interested in
Organize the files on your computer/laptop
Organize your online presence
Backup your computer
Take a break from Social media
Watch a TED talk
Take a free online course
Declutter your photos

Get Creative

This is a fun one. When was the last time you had fun? There are tons of things you can do with little to no money. You don’t need a fancy book to journal in; a scribbler or notebook will do. Hobbies don’t have to be expensive; sketching requires only pencil and paper. Use your imagination and whatever you have on hand. Maybe you’ll be the next great junk sculptor

Learn a new language
Write an ebook
Start a journal
Write a letter to yourself
Start a new hobby
Learn a new skill
Create a book of your favourite recipes
Do some mending or sew on a missing button
Bake a cake
Plant some flowers
plan a vacation (real or fantasy)
Finish an unfinished project

Take Care of YOU!

Very few of us take care of ourselves like we would a dear friend. And why shouldn’t you? Take a tip from the list below and do something nice for yourself. You deserve it!

Practice mindfulness
Take a power nap
Go to a free outdoor show
Go for a bike ride or walk
Join a book club irl or online
Create a bucket list
Dance to your favourite music
Take a bubble bath

Money Matters

Since you are low on funds now would be the time to create a better plan for the future, learn where the problem comes from, and find ways to make a few extra dollars. Here are a few ideas or do some research and come up with some ideas of your own.

Create a realistic budget
Start a ‘no spend’ challenge
Choose a goal to save $ for and make a plan
Track last month’s spending
Make a plan to save money on your bills
Sell your stuff online
Become a delivery person
Organize for a yard sale
Research money-making apps

Other Ideas

Helping others is a great way to use your time without spending any money. And if you’ve got time now, plan and prepare for the future, whether that’s tomorrow or next year, it’s an excellent investment to make when you don’t have money.

Meal prep for next week
Prep tomorrow’s clothes
Create an emergency kit
Create a first-aid kit
Bake for a co-worker or neighbour
Talk to your child
Help out an elderly neighbour
Contact a distant relative

Conclusion

You may not have money but you do have time; the same amount as everyone else. Put that time to good use and leave us some suggestions in the comments. What kind of things do you do when you’re out of money and bored?

Great suggestions! I like how you categorized them 🙂 Today I cleaned out a junk drawer full of school stuff. A lot of it was so old the packaging was falling apart. I threw out 95% of it. The drawers themselves are disgusting and need cleaning still but it’s a start. I don’t understand how plastic drawers can get so gross 🤮

I hear you Hilary! My cutlery is in a plastic organizer and it amazes me how much dirt collects in the sections – where does it come from? I’m only putting clean stuff in there.

So many good ideas! It brought home that so many of the best things in life are free 😊 I particularly enjoyed ‘wash the windows until they laugh’ cos that made me laugh!

took the kids to a digital arts festival in a local city yesterday, all the exhibits were free and it was great fun exploring some big ideas in a new way (watching Van Gogh inspired art on a VR headset whilst swinging on a swing was a novel experience, as was an exhibit of a series of self-portraits by an AI, all of them human in form…very thought provoking!)

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment. There are all kinds of free activities if you just look for them. Often museums and libraries put on free events. That digital arts festival sounds amazing. Wish I could find something like that here. BTW making windows laugh is a great activity to distract toddlers too. Hope to see you around again.

    Dear All

An easy-to-use and affordable substitute for traditional television services is free internet television. Numerous platforms and websites provide free access to a large selection of TV channels, both local and foreign. This implies that you may enjoy your preferred television series and films on your computer, smartphone, or tablet.

The flexibility that free internet TV provides is one of its main benefits. You’re not constrained by set times or a small selection of channels, unlike with traditional TV services. You get to pick what you want to watch and when when it comes to online TV. It’s up to you whether you want to catch up on missed episodes or binge-watch an entire series.

Additionally, exploring content from various cultures and nations is made possible by free internet TV. Gaining access to foreign channels allows you to expand your mind and see new films and television series that you might not have otherwise heard about.
Though there are plenty of trustworthy websites that provide free internet TV, it’s crucial to remember that some unofficial streaming services also disseminate copyrighted material without authorization. If you want to make sure that you are accessing content responsibly and legally, it is always advised to use reliable and legal sources.
With the ability to view our favorite series and movies whenever and wherever we want, free internet TV has created new entertainment opportunities. This is a great substitute for traditional television services because it offers a large selection of channels and content.

I hope you find this information helpful. If you have any further questions or need recommendations for reliable free internet TV platforms, feel free to reach out.

    Cheer,…..

Thank you so much for that information. It is very helpful and i agree. We don’t pay for any streaming services but use free internet TV such as Tubi. There is plenty to watch even for our grandchildren. Take care and thanks again.
