Are there times in your life when you start to feel like you are getting somewhere? Then the next thing you know you’re knocked back a couple of steps. Or worse get setback so much that you wonder if you are going forward or not. Dealing with adversities or problems can sometimes make you feel overwhelmed. If so just know, you are not the only one.

As a matter of fact, I think there are more people who feel this way than we realize. Crap happens whether we want it to or not. The good news is that we can choose not to suffer with it any longer than we absolutely have to. I’m going to provide you with some thoughts on different ways to view these situations in hopes that it might help both you and myself in the future to turn these adversities into something positive.

adversity meaning

Adversity singular; adversities plural refers to dealing with serious problems; times when things are not going your way at all. Very often it is when you are put in a situation where you are more or less forced to put on your happy face and smile.

However, the reality of it is that inside you feel like your world is falling apart. It is often when you are dealing with major challenges in your personal life, or have fallen on extremely difficult times. For some, it can be so bad it causes them to go through situational depression.

ADVERSITIES ARE OFTEN SYMPTOMS OF A DEEPER PROBLEM
When dealing with adversities in your life, it is generally due to something serious that has happened. The most common type is dealing with loss. Loss affects us deeply, most often feeling like a punch to the gut.

Things like losing your job, or a person you care deeply about through death or the end of a relationship. The most common question to these causes of adversities is why? It’s a good question to try and answer because if you can determine the answer, it helps us to accept the situation a little easier. The keyword is easier, not easily. There is a huge difference between the two.

Loss is not an easy pill to swallow. However, when it comes to some issues like a loss of a job, position, or relationship understanding the ‘why’ of the problem can help you to better understand yourself and therefore decrease the odds of the same problem reoccurring on a regular basis. As well as increase the chances of finding something more suited to you as a person. Whether it’s a career better suited for your personality and skills, or a relationship where both of you are better able to support and appreciate each other.

ADVERSITIES CAN HELP OPEN OUR EYES
Our lives can be so busy, things to do, things started but never got back to finishing, notifications on our phones, tablets, and computers, beeping. Other times we are just so busy in our heads that we don’t appreciate the people that are physically around us.

When we have to deal with various adversities in our lives, it sometimes causes us to open our eyes making us realize things we have been taking for granted. Different problems tend to teach us different lessons. While dealing with certain issues we come to realize that there are more important things in life other than money and collecting things or stuff; Causing us to realize that family, friends, and physical and mental health are way more important than the stuff we have been collecting to make us happy with our lives.

A sudden loss of a friend causes you to realize life does not go on forever. So the next time you are dealing with adversities take a moment to pause and consider whether you should be grateful for something that you may have been taking for granted. When you can learn something from the problem you’re dealing with it can help loosen the grip it has on you which will allow you to begin to gain a little better control over your situation.

ADVERSITIES SOMETIMES PUSH US IN A BETTER DIRECTION
There are times when adversities occur and give you the hint that it may be time to make a change in your life. Situations like a breakup with someone. In these situations, after some time has passed, it is best to not blame yourself for everything. It takes two to make a relationship.

Even though you may have thought they were the one, look at it as a sign that they are not perfectly suited for you. Consider it’s time for a change and that you need to be open to the possibility that there is someone better and more worthy of what you have to offer.

Meanwhile, until that day when you will truly meet the one that is meant for you, prepare yourself by investing your time and energy into becoming the best person you can be. Appreciating yourself and those who appreciate you for being you. The bottom line is that sometimes adversities can push you to make changes and take on new directions in life.

So the next time you run into some difficult problems or adversities that start taking a toll on you, or worse make you feel overwhelmed sit and take a moment to think if there might be some good to come out of it. This dilemma I’m dealing with; what are the possible causes? is there something I’m not seeing or understanding? Is there something to learn from dealing with these burdens? Is it time to consider taking on a new direction in my life?

I hope that when you have to deal with the difficulties that life throws at you, as you struggle through them in the end, you are able to come out better and stronger because of it. Because I know dealing with major problems is in no way easy, so I wish you the best of luck.
