Your Secret Thoughts When You Begin to Better Yourself

Choosing to work on yourself is one of the greatest and most rewarding things you can do. It allows you to learn and grow in many ways. The concept or idea that I will be explaining will give you a clear understanding of how many of us think and don’t even know it. What this will do for you is give you an edge with what ever it is you want to improve about yourself. Knowing the natural work flow of the mind can also give those who are new to self improvement additional ideas of things they may want to try making personal changes on. In return when you work at bettering yourself with basic thinking processes, it will increase your strength in succeeding at your main primary item you choose to start with.

I would also like to point out that the information I’ve written applies to many similar actions and methods or phrases you or others may choose to refer to when you work on yourself. Some of the other phrases people commonly use are things like personal development, bettering yourself, self improvement, making changes, self change, improving personal wellness, along with many other similar concepts. For the purpose of this article I will mainly be using the simplest term, working on yourself. After all it is the core idea when you think about. OK now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s move on and get to the information your looking for.

Predictable Stages When Making Personal Changes

A person chooses to work on self-improvement, personal development, wellness, and so on because they realize there are areas in their life they would like to improve.

The next thing that generally occurs is the deciding of what area you would want to work on yourself for improvement. The list of what a person can choose to focus on are endless. It could be anything from a better business, career, health, education, relationships, religion, giving to the community, to a 100 or so other things.

When you work on yourself and hope to be successful with self-improvement, self betterment, etc. there are some hurdles one has to get past. The first being the belief that you can do it. It mainly has to do with your inner self-image, which is how you see your self and believe, or don’t believe, in yourself deep down; a type of self confidence. You need to overcome negative self talk. If you don’t you won’t have a chance. Positive affirmations can help with reminding you to think more positively about yourself. Especially if you use positive affirmation cards as reminders. If you want to know more about self-image, there is an article I wrote in February of 2023 letting people know what it is and that it’s even possible to change it if you wanted to. Here is a link to it – you sure can create a better self-image

Next you need to be a positive thinker, as in you need to think ‘yes I can work on myself.’ Positive thinking gives you the power to motivate yourself. The inspiration to come up with solutions. The encouragement to try again if you run into setbacks. When you practice thinking more positive on a regular basis, you will start thinking of how to solve problems as they show up. If you don’t, the thing that can happen is, when a big obstacle shows up, because you are not trying to figure out a way around it, you may stop in your tracks and give up. Where positive thinking would say ‘maybe I can try a different way’ or ‘no worries, it’s not the end of world, I will try again with something different.’ Here is a link to an article I wrote last year that talks about the importance of thinking positive. Personal development begins with positive thinking.

Some people are fortunate enough to have a good self-image which means right from the beginning they do believe in themselves and that they can make self improvements. There are also some who are natural positive thinkers which means they don’t give up at the first sign of trouble or setbacks. However, even those two types of people can run into this problem. The problem of others. Others being friends, family, co-workers, and so on. Unfortunately some of these other people may very well be toxic individuals saying you won’t or can’t change or succeed. You must not allow yourself to listen to them. You must have the self confidence to ignore what they say and know that you can succeed at what ever area you choose to work on. If for no other reason than because there is absolutely nothing wrong with bettering ourselves. One of my earlier articles I wrote was about the different types of toxic people a person tends to encounter at work. Here is the title in case you’re curious and want to check it out – Toxic encounters of the annoying kind

Once you believe in yourself and know that you can work on yourself, along with the optimistic attitude that you will not give up at the first little setback, plus the self determination of going for it despite what others may think or say then it’s time to gather information. At this point you likely have a target goal in mind. What you need to do when you work on yourself is to gather as much information as you can on the subject or area you choose. Make it a life change, a part of you. Feed your mind so it becomes a part of your day-to-day thinking. This may involve research on the internet, at libraries, or maybe even taking courses. Also look for others who know more about it so you can ask for advice and tips. Be always learning. Learning leads to knowledge, and knowledge leads to being able to doing things better. Which will help to inspire, motivate, and encourage you to strive for greatness with what you are working on. When it comes to doing research, being able to remain focused helps with finding and retaining information faster. Here is an article you may find helpful for getting better focus. Now you know what you need to do. You perhaps even have some type of plan laid out and are ready to work on yourself whether it be personal development, self betterment, making positive changes, etc… The next step is to take action. Everything you researched and/or learned needs to be put into action. For some people this can be the most difficult part. However, once you realize you can do this, you can get past any procrastination you might be dealing with. Simply do something with the knowledge you have. It does not matter how small or how slow. Take that first step, even tiny steps get you moving forward, even 1% effort is better than no effort at all. Just remember YES you can do this! The first article I ever wrote and was published in our first month was about things you can do when you’re about to work on bettering yourself. Maybe it will help you get a good start on your journey. Motivational suggestions on Self-Improvement
