When we want or desire to make our lives better, many people think we need to make big changes. Improving our life does not have to be huge or a grand gesture. You don’t have to seek out a guru or any fancy program, seminar, or series to follow in hopes of making some powerful shift in your lifestyle.
As a matter of fact, for real change to take place in your life, it’s most often better achieved by focusing on the tiny things that are easy to adjust. By focusing on these tiny things you increase the odds of success because it’s easier and more likely to stick. This results in it becoming a part of your overall self that continues for a lifetime. Make small important changes and you’ll see great improvement in your life.
Small Ways to Change Your Life
SMILE MORE OFTEN
Of the many tiny things that you or any person could change, to smile more, has to be just about the simplest to choose. It costs nothing and yet sends a powerful message to others. Smiling at someone can communicate more in a second than many words can do. It even has the power to defuse a negative situation and tension in others. When you smile others become more friendly and more positively responsive. Also the more you smile throughout your day the better you feel as well.
APPRECIATE MORE, WHILE WANTING LESS
It’s not uncommon to want stuff. I can’t think of anyone I know, including myself, that isn’t wanting this, that, or something else. So the bottom line is we all crave material items in our life. To help reduce the want for so much, make a list of everything you currently want. Then take that list and look for some tiny things you can easily strike off the list. By doing this you can downsize a few wants that you perhaps don’t really, really need.
Doing without some of these tiny things on the list may very well help with appreciating more of what we do have. Learning to appreciate and make better use of what we have can also help you and me not to be so dependent on wanting to get new stuff, therefore, allowing us to better comprehend that material possessions are not what brings true joy and happiness in our lives.
PRACTICE BEING PATIENT
When it comes to making small changes with tiny things in your life. Being patient might not be as simple for some as it is for others. However, it is a great opportunity to learn how to relax especially when you are stuck in a line somewhere waiting your turn. Instead of getting frustrated, use it as a moment to relax or a time to take a deep breath.
Another opportunity to practice patients is when you’re not getting good service from someone. Instead of getting angry about it because it rarely if ever works. Don’t lose your temper, be patient, remain calm. If you learn to do this, your life will change, and you will have fewer bad days. You might still have a bad moment but at least with being calm and patient, it is less likely to follow you through the rest of the day.
STRIVE TO HELP WITHOUT RECOGNITION
Doing something nice for someone else in the run of the day is great and everything. The only problem is that we most often want to be recognized for whatever nice deed we do. So that means one of the tiny things that would change how we live our lives is to work on not expecting praise for all our kindness.
If you, me, and anyone else for that matter, could more often do stuff expecting no praise or attention of any kind this would change our lives by making us a little more selfless which would also contribute to us having a little more inner peace.
SHOW OTHERS YOUR GRATITUDE
This only takes a very quick moment of your time, however showing others how you appreciate what they do for you can magically make their day. You don’t need to make big gestures, even a simple thank you shows you noticed. At times you could let them know how good something is, or comment on what a great job they did, or recognize that they must have put alot of time into it.
These may seem like tiny things however these comments allow you to show kindness as well as recognize the efforts that others put in. The people that you really want to show gratitude to are those who do things for you expecting no consideration at all. Show gratitude as often as you can because it is powerful and it really can boost someone’s day.
FIND THE POSITIVE IN OTHERS
When choosing tiny things that you could begin with right away to improve yourself, this one is good because it not only helps to make you a better person it also helps to reduce negative gossip about others. So the next time you hear people saying something negative about a person you know of, regardless if what they are saying is true or not, find something positive to say about the person instead.
WORK ON SINGULAR FOCUS & ATTENTION
Multi-tasking has pretty much come to be a normal part of life. Though it might be fine with mundane and/or basic routine stuff, like preparing a meal; after all, you wouldn’t just cook one item at a time unless you want to eat your food cold, as much as possible try not to multi-task everything. It has a tendency to disrupt your concentration.
Like reading and eating at the same time during a meal. Or when someone is talking to you and your mind is somewhere else. Instead, try giving the person your full undivided attention. When you make it a point to only pay attention to one thing at a time you will most likely complete the task faster and do a much better job. With practice, you may even become super focused.
There you go a few tiny things that you can change that will help with bettering your life. Sometimes when it comes to self-improvement, personal development or the betterment of oneself it’s good to have something easier to work on especially if you’re just starting out.
The great thing about the suggestions I provided is that anyone working on making personal changes, even if you are in the midst of striving for greatness with something, can still work on one of these ideas on the side. So whether you yourself are just beginning or already working your way to success with something I, Razz wish you the best of luck during your journey.
