Do you sometimes walk into your home or workspace and see an overwhelming mess that somehow has grown out of control? A cluttered desk or counter with little mountains in the corner or a room in your house where shelves have so many things on them that there is no room left for anything else. You open a closet and have to dig through a ton of stuff in hopes of finding what you are looking for. Maybe you’re lucky enough to have a spare room, or garage, or perhaps even a shed or barn.
However, if you want to get something in there, you have to deal with an obstacle course of travelling through or around this or that, then reaching over/under more stuff to reach what you’re after in hopes of not creating a bigger mess by tipping something over. Well, we are going to take a look at some ways you can help reduce the chaos of all the stuff that accumulates over time. So get ready to dig in and clear out to make your life a little simpler by having less clutter.

Space Saving Solutions Conquering Common Clutter

Too many things or items sitting around that are of no use creates mental chaos. If it’s something that doesn’t mean anything to you or doesn’t add any value to you or your life, get rid of it. Go around and look at each shelf, or bookcase and look at each item. Bring a box with you. Remove whatever is of no use or value. Do the same with closets and drawers. The more clutter you get rid of, the more room and space you have and things or locations look more neat and tidy.

The everyday things you use daily need a home so you know where they are. When you go to bed you always set your phone in a certain place and know where it is when you get up. Well, use that same principle for as many things as you can. Designate a place for everything that gets moved regularly. Your keys, purse, wallet, even the loaf of bread. Giving things a home or designated place will not only help you to find them it also keeps the main surface areas of your home from getting cluttered. For example, keys always sit on the shelf by the door, now they don’t clutter up the living room or kitchen table. Bread does not just lay anywhere it always ends up back where it came from. So no more searching and you have more surface space.

There are spaces being filled up with too much of the same thing. It can sometimes even be a visual distraction so you need to pare it down by either getting rid of the excess or putting them away in storage. Do you have 2 mops, 3 brooms and 1 dustpan? Get rid of the extra mop and the broom or two you don’t use. Do you have on a desk a container with 8 pencils, 5 pens, highlighters, and erasers? Downsize it to two or three pens and two pencils, and put the rest in storage for later. So now you have less clutter and can grab the item you need quicker and easier.

Storage space is that area where things just get shoved and piled most of the time. Areas like closets, the shed, attic, loft, corner of the garage, and the back of the barn. What happens is various similar items end up in multiple locations. Where is that thing? It’s either in the garage… or the shed… so we are never sure where to find it. The easiest way to simplify the situation is to keep like with like. Shovels, which are outside working tools, are kept in the shed where garden stuff is kept. Keeping like with like simplifies where to find things so you’re not always second-guessing yourself when you go to look for something.

Do you have so much stuff that you feel anxious when you think of cleaning? The walls and shelves are flooded with a ton of books you don’t read anymore, the closet is full of clothes you don’t wear, and maybe you have a basement, attic, shed, or garage with piles of things you no longer use or need. You can reclaim some of that space and feel good about it by simply picking through it and donating some of it. Stuff collects dust so you’ll be saving yourself future work as well.
Sure there are things you really want to keep and that’s fine. Start by getting rid of the things that are less important to you so you can see the things you cherish more easily. Also, you will be helping someone else by donating books, clothes, and other things that you won’t even miss.

The greatest thing about getting your space organized from all the clutter is how it makes your life a little simpler and easier. Think about it. When things are messy and in the way, you become stressed whether it’s because you have no room to work or you can’t find what you’re looking for. Also, when things are really cluttered and almost overflowing, it can cause anxiety and a feeling of being overwhelmed. What that means is when things are easier to find, and you have uncluttered space to work there is no stress, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed. Regardless of whether it is a counter, desk, or workbench, having the area available to simply get to work makes for a better simpler lifestyle, being able to find or do what you want, when you want.
