Time is something very valuable. I dare to say more so than money. If you misspend your time, you can not get it back. If you lose track of it, you can’t get it back. When you’re trying to simplify things in life, time becomes crucial because a hectic busy life is never simple.
So here are five things you can do to help regain control of your time. With these methods, you will soon have some personal time for yourself which you truly deserve. What you do with your spare time is, of course, up to you. However, the greatest thing is having the time to sit, relax, and enjoy a moment of free time. Even if it’s simply to do nothing for a few minutes. So let’s stop wasting time and get to it.

5 Methods You Can Use to Take Control of Your Time

Having a simpler lifestyle is much easier if you have a bit of organization in your life. So the best way to get off to a good start is by organizing your time and the things you do on a day-to-day basis. With daily routines, the clock has already done the first part. You have mornings, afternoons, and evenings. So set things up that daily you do ‘this’ in the morning, ‘this’ in the afternoon, and ‘this’ each evening. After doing certain tasks always around the same time for a while, you start becoming more efficient with those tasks, and it frees up time so you can relax and enjoy life more.

Before the internet came into existence people still got mail. You go to your mailbox and bring it in. You take a few minutes to go through and separate the junk from personal from bills and important mail. You decided when you wanted to read the letters, and later decided when to respond. Junk mail was looked at briefly and then tossed. Important mail like bills you set aside somewhere where you wouldn’t forget to deal with them. Today this is called snail mail and many people still follow the same procedure. Not everyone of course, but still a lot.
The thing is you can do the same thing with email. Instead of checking it every time you get a ding or notification, you decide to free your time by setting certain times of the day when you will check it. You can even set a time for when you will respond, or at least with your personal email. Work email well, that’s different of course. This will allow time for doing some stuff you like to do, reading a book, or perhaps reading a blog or article online such as Razzworks. It will also free your mind from being chained to every ping you hear.

Sometimes even with a good routine, it seems you can’t get everything done in a run of a day. You have to decide what is really important. For example, decide what has to be done every day and what tasks can be alternated. It will reduce your stress and anxiety along with time if you prioritize individual tasks. The reason why this is important is that there is always work to be done. No priorities then no break. You have to decide what items or tasks can wait, so you can be able to have a breather.

With so much of your time being taken up with work and tasks that need to be done, and with spare minutes being sucked up by scrolling through feeds or responding to messages you feel like you haven’t done anything meaningful. Carve out a little time every day to do something for yourself. Maybe an hour each evening to play a board game with the family. Or 30 minutes where you work on a hobby. For some perhaps something physical like a walk, jog, stretches, or a workout. Taking at least 20 minutes to do something for you helps to make life a little simpler and more enjoyable. So make sure to carve out some time for you.

Do you appear inseparable from your phone? Do you feel you have to check every little ping, ding, and chime you hear? This can leave you feeling anxious, waiting for replies to your text messages and emails. Sometimes even losing sleep because you’re waiting for a response and don’t want to go to sleep just yet. Or worse you just fell asleep and ding, you wake up to see who just sent you an email or text.
You need to shut off your notifications from time to time so you can have some time to relax. Even if it’s only 15 minutes, or while you’re eating with someone. Definitely at night so you can get your rest. You can turn the notifications back on when you wake up. Give it a try, take control of your time, and turn notifications off for even 15 minutes. The message will still be there when you get back.

There you go, 5 ways you can start working on simplifying your life and creating a little more time for yourself. Time is something that many of us wish we had more of. Unfortunately, that is something you can not accumulate and store aside for later. The time we have is all we have. The best anyone, including you and I, can do is to use it wisely. Taking a pause or break, prioritizing, and taking some time for ourselves is not selfish. Doing these things allows us to have more energy, focus, and the ability to do our very best with the things that we need to do when they need to be done.
