Guide to Creating an Achievable New Years’ Resolution
Every New Year millions of people make what is called New years resolutions. Most people just idly make one just from the first thing that comes to mind. Others just pick anything generic, so they can answer the question when asked, so what is your New Years’ resolution this year? However many are at least half serious, if not fully serious, about actually trying to fulfill their chosen challenge for the year. So for those of you who are serious about making a New Years’ Resolution but not sure what this is for you.
Not sure what to focus on? Hmm, well, the most common resolutions usually fall into these 3 categories. Improving yourself personally. Trying completely new things that you have always wanted to try. Or learning/developing a skill of some type.
I’m going to add in a 4th as a suggestion that most don’t necessarily think of. That is to start a new hobby of some kind. Many of us are so attached to our electronic devices for entertainment that we don’t consider hobbies that don’t involve technology.
It’s my challenge to you to develop a hobby that’s not on a phone, tablet, laptop, computer, or gaming system. I’m getting back into bullet journaling and also trying diamond art this year. I got two kits for Christmas so that’s already a good start.
Here are a few quick suggestions to keep in mind for whatever you decide you want to make your New Years’ Resolution about. Keeping these suggestions in mind will help you to pick something you will more likely be able to succeed at.

Do something different
Alot of people repeat the same resolution year after year with the same results. However this year you are serious, so pick something different.
Choose a New Years’ resolution you think you might like. Be a little adventurous. This way even if this new thing does not work out. You know and you can strike it off your mental wish list. On the other hand who knows you could end up really enjoying it and wish you’d done this sooner.
Try something enjoyable
Most people choose to work on stuff they should do but don’t really want to do. So pick something you really want to do and can enjoy doing and you are more likely to work on it, even when it starts to get a little difficult.
Make it reasonable
Choose the one goal or idea you can see yourself doing in the future. It’s ok to pick something that you may not have the skills to do today, however, you know you can learn or work your way to it. With small baby steps, 1% at a time, you can accomplish just about anything within reason.
Do something, Start ASAP
Whatever you choose for your New Years’ Resolution, do something, anything, each day that will guide you in the direction you choose. Every little bit helps. Just make sure you do something every day that leads you toward your New Years’ choice. If you let one day go by where you did not do anything, then excuses will appear. Then after that, it will be procrastination.
So while you’re deciding what kind of goal or ambition to choose, make sure it’s something reasonable, different, and engaging, and start right away. Even if New Years isn’t here yet. When someone asks what your resolution will be you may end up telling them you’ve already started. Now wouldn’t that be impressive?
